Abstract

Paternal attachment (father-infant bonding) is the relationship between father and infant, which starts on the second-third day after birth and occurs as a result of the monthly process. In order for a healthy paternal attachment, direct participation of the father in baby care should start within the first year. In babies whose father-infant bonding occurs from the first days; emotional, cognitive, and social skills have been stated to be better. Due to the fact that paternal attachment begins to develop after birth, infants and their fathers hospitalized in neonatal intensive care units are adversely affected by this process. When the father, whose baby was hospitalized in the neonatal intensive care unit, came to the unit, the first words he usually heard were "Daddy, congratulations on your baby, we want wet wipes and diapers from you". However, the paternal role is much more than this profile, which is materially commodified and seen as an economic resource. Neonatal nurses can support the development of the paternal attachment process with father-friendly nursing practices. In this review article, it is aimed to emphasize the importance of paternal attachment on the mother-infant-father health axis in terms of newborn health and to give information about father-friendly practices that can be applied by nurses.

Yenidoğan Döneminde Paternal Bağlanmanın Önemi ve Baba Dostu Hemşirelik Uygulamalarının Sürece Etkisi: Geleneksel Derleme
