Abstract

Abstract

Cardiovascular diseases are among the most common causes of mortality and morbidity among both developed and developing countries. It has been reported that the most important components in the control and management of cardiovascular diseases are patient education and follow-up after discharge. If patient education is provided planned and regularly for behavioral change and a healthy lifestyle, it increases the compliance to treatment, self-care and quality of life in cardiovascular diseases. The patient education, which was limited with face-to-face education, booklets and brochures etc. in the past, has made web-based education with the constantly increasing number of internet users all around the world. The facts that it is possible to provide visual, audio and written communication at the same time without any time and space restrictions, it is repeatable, it is possible to create a social environment that enables individuals, who have experienced the same situation, to benefit from each other’s experiences, and to reach wide masses with the Web-based education, have increased the usability and importance of this education method. The aim of this compilation is to scrutinize the design and content of web-based education and the advantages and disadvantages of it and to evaluate the effectiveness of education provided through web in cardiovascular disease management in line with the literature.
