, - , 03.06.2016

Abstract

Objective:It is aimed to define the situation about education, working conditions, future plans/fields of interest and satisfaction of orthopaedics and traumatology residents in Turkey using this survey. Methods:A defining survey form to identify the problems in orthopaedics residents' education and their solution suggestions was prepared. This survey, consisting of 24 questions, was applied to all orthopaedics and traumatology residents entering the 2013 Resident Education Progress Exam(UEGS) done by Turkish Orthopaedics and Traumatology Education Council(TOTEK) after the exam was over and all young orthopedists reached via e-mail groups of Turkish Orthopaedics and Traumatology Association-Resident and Young Attendings Council(TOTBID-AGUH).Results:A total of 725 residents and 132 young attendings have entered the study. The answer of the attendants to the question of "Is there an education program / Is it being applied" has been identified as a "yes/yes" for 62,7%.It was observed that 94,3% of the respondents consider a rotation abroad in a positive light. The most common answer to the question of "What's the priority of the department you are studying in" has been seen to be "patient care" with 36,9%. Regarding work conditions,it was found that the most important parameter affecting life conditions was "the presence of long work shifts" (p<0.05). Conclusion:This survey is a pioneering study, that aims to identify the encountered problems during the training period of orthopedics and traumatology residents in Turkey, with its high participation rate.Analysis of survey data reveals the importance of certain elements like the development of training programs, increasing the time spent with faculty and development and promotion of the resident passes.
