Determination of the Preoperative Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery in Patients Who Will Have Cosmetic Surgery and the Factors Affecting Having Cosmetic Surgery.

Abstract

Objective: This study was aimed to determine the cosmetic surgery acceptance status and the influencing factors in patients who are hospitalized in the Plastic Reconstructive and Aesthetic Surgery Clinic and will undergo cosmetic surgery.
Methods: The sample of this descriptive study was consisted of 179 patients who will undergo cosmetic surgery in a private hospital in Istanbul. The research was conducted between November 2019- July 2020. ‘19-item ‘Personal Information Form’ and a 15-item ‘The Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale’ were used with face-to-face interview technique.
Results: Patient's The Acceptance of Cosmetic Surgery Scale mean score 79.88 ± 16.13, intrapersonal subscale mean score of 30.07 ± 5.32, social subscale mean score of 20:23 ± 8.11 and consider subscale scores were averaged 29.58 ± 6:44. The all mean scores of the patients were found to be high.
Conclusion: It was determined that individuals who will undergo Aesthetic Surgery are under pressure from the social environment and are affected by advertisements. It was found the factors in having plastic surgery gender specific appearance of the breast, education level, age, economic level, social gains, not being happy with life, dissatisfaction with body appearance, trying nonsurgical methods in the anamnesis and planning different aesthetic operations. It is recommended to compare the psychosocial status of patients who will undergo plastic surgery in the preoperative and postoperative periods. In this direction, new studies can be brought to the literature by evaluating the effect of aesthetic surgery on mental state.

Estetik Ameliyatı Olacak Hastaların Ameliyat Öncesi Dönemde Estetik Cerrahiyi Kabul Durumu ve Estetik Ameliyatı Olmayı Etkileyen Faktörlerin Belirlenmesi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışmada Plastik Rekonstrüktif ve Estetik cerrahi kliniğine yatan ve estetik ameliyat geçirecek olan hastaların estetik cerrahiyi kabul durumları ve bu hastaları etkileyen faktörlerin belirlenmesi amaçlanmıştır.
Yöntem: Tanımlayıcı olarak planlanan çalışmanın örneklemini İstanbul’da özel bir hastanede estetik cerrahi ameliyatı geçirecek gönüllü 179 hasta oluşturmuştur. Çalışma Kasım 2019 – Temmuz 2020 tarihleri arasında yürütülmüştür. Veriler toplanırken 19 soruluk ‘Kişisel Bilgi Formu’ ve 15 soruluk ‘Estetik Cerrahiyi Kabul Ölçeği’ kullanılmıştır. Veriler araştırmacı tarafından yüz yüze görüşme tekniği uygulanarak toplanmıştır.
Bulgular: Hastaların Estetik Cerrahiyi Kabul ölçeği puan ortalaması 79.88±16.13, Kişisel Alt boyutu puan ortalaması 30.07±5.32, sosyal alt boyut puan ortalaması 20.23±8.11, düşünceler alt boyut puan ortalaması 29.58±6.44 bulundu. Hastaların Estetik Cerrahiyi Kabul Ölçeği ve kişisel ve sosyal, düşünceler alt boyutu puan ortalaması yüksek düzeyde bulundu.
Sonuç: Estetik Cerrahi ameliyatı olacak bireylerin sosyal çevre baskısı altında oldukları ve reklamlardan etkilendiği belirlendi. Memenin cinsiyete özgü görünümünün, eğitim seviyesinin, yaşın, ekonomik düzeyin, sosyal kazanımların, yaşamdan mutluluk duymamanın, beden görünümünden memnun olmamanın, anamnezinde cerrahi dışı yöntem denemenin ve farklı estetik cerrahi ameliyatlar planlamanın estetik cerrahi ameliyatı olma konusunda belirleyici etkenler oldukları tespit edildi. Estetik ameliyat olacak hastaların preoperatif ve postoperatif dönemde psikososyal durumlarının karşılaştırılması önerilir. Bu doğrultuda estetik cerrahinin ruhsal duruma etkisi değerlendirilerek yeni çalışmalar literatüre kazandırılabilir.
