ECONOMIC BURDEN OF FAMILIES IN AUTISM SPECTRUM DISORDER/PERVASİVE DEVELOPMENTAL DISORDER

Abstract

This study was conducted to determine the economic burdens faced by the families of children diagnosed with Autism Spectrum Disorder/Pervasive Developmental Disorder (ASD/PDD). The research was carried out using the descriptive method, with the help of document analysis, one of the qualitative analysis methods. The data of the study were collected from the Beş Duyu Bir Ses Özel Eğitim ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezi in Bornova, Izmir, between 01.01.2022 and 31.01.2022, through a questionnaire consisting of multiple choice and open-ended questions. In the study, 26 families answered the questionnaire. As a result of the research, it was determined that the most important economic burden of the families was education, followed by the expenditures of doctors and psychologists. A significant part of the families stated that they did not receive economic support due to ASD/PDD. For this reason, it is important that the public support families within the framework of national and international agreements.

OTİZM SPEKTRUM BOZUKLUĞU/YAYGIN GELİŞİMSEL BOZUKLUKTA AİLELERİN EKONOMİK YÜKLERİ

Abstract

Bu araştırma Otizm Spektrum Bozukluğu/Yaygın Gelişimsel Bozukluk (OSB/YGB) tanısı alan çocukların ailelerinin karşılaşmış oldukları ekonomik yüklerin belirlenmesi amacıyla yapılmıştır. Araştırma nitel analiz yöntemlerinden doküman analizi yardımıyla, betimsel yöntem kullanılarak gerçekleştirilmiştir. Araştırmanın verileri İzmir ili Bornova İlçesi Beş Duyu Bir Ses Özel Eğitim ve Rehabilitasyon Merkezinden 01.01.2022- 31.01.2022 tarihleri arasında çoktan seçmeli ve açık uçlu sorulardan oluşan soru formu aracılığıyla toplanmıştır. Araştırmada 26 aile soru formunu yanıtlamıştır. Araştırma sonucunda ailelerin en önemli ekonomik yükünün eğitim olduğu, bunu doktor ve psikolog harcamalarının izlediği belirlenmiştir. Ailelerin önemli bir kısmı OSB/YGB nedeniyle ekonomik destek almadıklarını belirtmişlerdir. Bu nedenle ailelere kamunun ulusal ve uluslararası sözleşmeler çerçevesinde destek sağlaması önemlidir.
