Effect of kinesiotaping on gastrocnemius stretch-shortening cycle in professional basketball players

Abstract

Purpose: This study was planned to investigate the effect of kinesiotaping applied to gastrocnemius muscle on stretchshortening cycle at different times in basketball players. The effect of this cycle was evaluated with stretching ability and stiffness of muscle.


Methods: Thirteen volunteer professional first league basketball players (ages between 18 and 34 years), not having any lower extremity injuries in last 6 months were included in this study. The athletes’ back and hamstring flexibility were evaluated using sit and reach test. The Reactive Strength Index (RSI) data was recorded using Optojump system (Microgate, Italy) without and with kinesiotape application (45 minutes, 24 hours, and 48 hours) by jumping while hands on waist without bending the knees.


Results: The flexibility of the athletes’ was very good . This effect was recorded after 48 hours of application. There was a statistically significant difference in the RSI data evaluated at different times (p<0.05).


Conclusion: Kinesiotaping applied to gastrocnemius muscle has a positive effect on muscle stiffness in professional basketball players. It was found that this effect occurred 48 hours after the kinesiotaping.

Profesyonel basketbol oyuncularında Kinezyo bantlamanın gastrocnemius kasında germe-kısalma döngüsü üzerine etkisi

Abstract

Amaç: Bu çalışma, basketbolcularda gastrocnemius kasına uygulanan kinezyo bantlamanın farklı zaman dilimlerindeki germe-kısalma döngüsüne olan etkisini incelemek amacıyla planlandı. Bu döngüye olan etki kasın esneme yeteneği ve sertliği ile değerlendirildi.

Yöntem: Çalışmaya son 6 ay içinde alt ekstremite yaralanması geçirmemiş, yaşları 18-34 yıl arasında değişen 13 gönüllü profesyonel, 1. lig basketbol oyuncusu alındı. Sporcuların uzan-eriş testi ile bel ve hamstring esneklikleri değerlendirildi. Sporculara bantsız ve gastrocnemius kasına kinezyo bant uygulaması yapıldıktan 45 dakika sonra, 24 saat sonra ve 48 saat sonra dizleri bükmeden eller belde sıçrama yaparak Reactive Strength Index (RSI) değerleri Optojump (Microgate, İtalya) sistemi ile kaydedildi.


Bulgular: Sporcuların esnekliklerinin çok iyi düzeyde olduğu belirlendi. Farklı zamanlarda değerlendirilen RSI değerlerinde fark bulundu (p<0.05). Bu farkın, kinezyo bantlama uygulamasından 48 saat sonra arttığı tespit edildi (p<0.05).


Sonuç: Profesyonel basketbol oyuncularında gastrocnemius kasına uygulanan kinezyo bantlamanın kas sertliği üzerine olumlu etkisi vardır. Bu etkinin bantlama yapıldıktan 48 saat sonra ortaya çıktığı gözlendi.
