Hemşirelerde Merhamet Yorgunluğu: Ne? Nasıl? Ne Yapmalı?

Abstract

Merhamet yorgunluğu; bakım vericinin başkalarına empati kurma ve bakım verme isteği ile becerisi ve enerjisinde yaygın azalmaya neden olan fiziksel, duygusal, sosyal ve ruhsal yönden tükenme olarak tanımlanır. Merhamet yorgunluğu, travma ya da stresli olay deneyimleyen bireylerle çalışmanın doğal bir sonucudur. Bu nedenle hemşireler; hastaların travma, acı ve ağrılarına merhamet göstermeleri, empati kurmaları ve hastaların yaşadığı travmalarına uzun süre maruz kalmaları nedeniyle merhamet yorgunluğunu yoğun yaşayan meslek grubudur. Hemşirelerde merhamet yorgunluğunun fiziksel, duygusal/ruhsal, sosyal, zihinsel ve manevi alanda birçok belirtileri ortaya çıkmaktadır. Bu süreçte iş doyumsuzluğu ve tükenmişlik ile üretkenliğin azalması ve sağlık sistemindeki iş devir hızı gittikçe artmaktadır. Ayrıca gelişen merhamet yorgunluğu; tıbbi hataların artmasına, hasta memnuniyetinde azalmalara ve meslekten ayrılmalarda önemli bir neden olarak gösterilmektedir. Günümüz ekonomisinde hem kişisel ve profesyonel hemşirelik açısından hem de sağlık kuruluşları açısından merhamet yorgunluğunun sonuçlarının çok maliyetli olduğu bildirilmektedir. Özellikle ülkemizde hemşirelikte merhamet yorgunluğu konusunun gündeme getirilmesi, anlaşılması, konuya gereken önemin verilmesi ve merhamet yorgunluğunu önleme ve tedavi programlarının oluşturulması gereklidir. Bu makalede hemşirelerde yaşanan merhamet yorgunluğu ve etkileri konusunda farkındalığı arttırmak amacıyla, merhamet yorgunluğunun tanımı ve etkileri ile hemşirelikteki öneminin yanısıra, merhamet yorgunluğu konusunda yapılan bilimsel araştırma sonuçları tartışılmıştır.
