TIP ÖĞRENCİLERİNDE AKILLI TELEFON BAĞIMLILIĞI VE UYKU PROBLEMLERİ ARASINDAKİ İLİŞKİ

Abstract

AMAÇ: Günümüzde iletişim, internete erişim ve fotoğraf çekme gibi pek çok alanda kolaylık sağlayan akıllı telefonların kullanımı giderek yaygınlaşmaktadır. Bu cihazların kullanıcıya sunduğu yararların yanı sıra uygun süre ve sıklıkta kullanılmamasına bağlı bağımlılık riski oluşturduğu da bildirilmiştir. Bu çalışma ile tıp öğrencileri arasında akıllı telefon bağımlılığı (ATB) sıklığının ve uyku sorunları ile ilişkisinin araştırılması amaçlanmıştır.
GEREÇ VE YÖNTEM: Kesitsel tipte bu çalışma 05.05.2020 - 20.05.2020 tarihleri arasında Afyonkarahisar Sağlık Bilimleri Üniversitesi Tıp Fakültesi'nde tıp öğrencileri üzerinde yürütüldü. Katılımcılara sosyodemografik özellikler, uyku sorunları ve gündüz uykululuk davranışlarının sorgulandığı yapılandırılmış anket ve Akıllı Telefon Bağımlılığı Ölçeği-Kısa Formu (ATBÖ-KF) uygulandı.
BULGULAR: ATBÖ-KF ölçek puanı 3. çeyrek değerin üzerinde olan 35 (%23,5) öğrencinin muhtemel bağımlı ya da bağımlı olduğu belirlendi. Bağımlı olmayan ve bağımlı olan öğrenciler günlük uyku süresi açısından karşılaştırıldığında anlamlı bir fark bulunmadı (p>0,05). Uyku vakti gelince huzursuz olma, uyumadan önce beslenme, uykusu gelse de akıllı telefonunu elinden bırakamama, daha çok uyuyabilmek için kahvaltıyı atlama davranışları bağımlı öğrencilerde anlamlı olarak daha yaygındı (p<0,001, p=0,001, p<0,001, p=0,003, sırasıyla). Bağımlı öğrencilerde gündüz uykululuk davranışlarının da daha sık olduğu görüldü (p<0,01).
SONUÇ: Bu çalışma ile tıp öğrencileri arasında ATB’nin yaygın olduğu ve akıllı telefon bağımlılarında özellikle gündüz uykululuğu gibi uyku sorunlarının daha sık olduğu gözlendi.

THE RELATIONSHIP BETWEEN SMART PHONE ADDICTION AND SLEEP PROBLEMS IN MEDICAL STUDENTS

Abstract

OBJECTIVE: Today, the use of smart phones, which provide convenience in many areas such as communication, internet access and taking photographs, is becoming more and more common. In addition to the benefits of these devices to the user, it has been reported that they pose an addiction risk due to not being used for an appropriate period of time and frequency. This study aimed to investigate the frequency of smartphone addiction (SPA) and its relationship with sleep problems among medical students.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: This cross-sectional study was conducted on medical students at Afyonkarahisar Health Sciences University, Faculty of Medicine between 05.05.2020 - 20.05.2020. A structured questionnaire in which sociodemographic characteristics, sleep problems and daytime sleepiness behaviors were questioned and the Smartphone Addiction Scale-Short Form (SPAS-SF) were applied to the participants.
RESULTS: It was determined that 35 (23.5%) students whose SPAS-SF scores were above the third quarter value were determined to be probable addict or addict. No significant difference was found when non-addicted and addicted students were compared in terms of daily sleep duration (p>0.05). The behaviors of being restless when falling asleep, eating before going to sleep, being unable to leave their smartphones even when drowsy, and skipping breakfast to sleep more were significantly more common in addicted students (p<0.001, p=0.001, p<0.001, p=0.003; respectively). Daytime sleepiness behaviors were also found to be more frequent in addicted students (p<0.01).
CONCLUSIONS: With this study, it was observed that SPA was common among medical students and sleep problems such as daytime sleepiness were more frequent in smartphone addicts.
