EFFECT of the USE of SURGICAL INCISION COVERS in the PREVENTATION of SURGICAL SITE INFECTION

Abstract

Surgical site infections are one of the most important issues of surgery that increase mortality, morbidity, length of hospital stay and hospital expenses. Surgical incision dressings; It is believed to represent a mechanical and/or microbial barrier to theoretically prevent the migration of microorganisms from the skin to the surgical site during surgeries. Therefore, surgical incision drapes are widely used in the operating room to reduce contamination of the surgical site. Compliance with evidence-based recommendations for the prevention of surgical site infection is very important in reducing infection rates. Operating room nurses, who are part of the surgical team, are primarily responsible for the control of surgical site infections in operating rooms. Therefore, operating room nurses; It is important that they have knowledge of the literature and evidence-based guideline recommendations regarding surgical incision dressings, the use of which is a controversial issue. In this article, it is aimed to include studies on the effectiveness of surgical incision dressings in preventing surgical site infections in the light of recent updates and recommendations on surgical incision dressings in clinical guidelines. As a result, in the literature on the use of surgical incision dressings and in the current international guidelines published to prevent surgical site infections; It has been observed that there is no single consensus on the use of surgical incision dressings in the operating room, but in the case of the use of surgical incision dressings, it is recommended to use iodine-impregnated surgical incision dressings. It is recommended that more studies be conducted on this subject in order to contribute to the attempts to prevent surgical site infections and to bring the use of surgical incision dressing to the literature. In addition, it is recommended that operating room nurses should follow current information on the use of surgical incision dressings and try to prevent surgical site infections.

CERRAHİ ALAN ENFEKSİYONUNUN ÖNLENMESİNDE CERRAHİ KESİ ÖRTÜLERİ KULLANIMININ ETKİSİ

Abstract

Cerrahi alan enfeksiyonları mortaliteyi, morbiditeyi, hastanede yatış süresini ve hastane giderlerini arttıran cerrahinin en önemli konularından birisidir. Cerrahi kesi örtülerinin; ameliyatlar sırasında teorik olarak mikroorganizmaların deriden ameliyat bölgesine göçünü önlemek için mekanik ve / veya mikrobik bir bariyeri temsil ettiğine inanılmaktadır. Bu nedenle cerrahi kesi örtüleri ameliyathanede cerrahi bölge kontaminasyonunu azaltmak için yaygın olarak kullanılmaktadır. Cerrahi alan enfeksiyonunun önlenmesine yönelik kanıta dayalı önerilere uyulması, enfeksiyon oranlarının düşmesinde oldukça önemlidir. Cerrahi ekibin bir parçası olan ameliyathane hemşireleri ameliyathanelerde cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarının kontrolünde primer sorumlu kişilerdir. Dolayısıyla ameliyathane hemşirelerinin; kullanımı tartışmalı bir konu olan cerrahi kesi örtülerine ilişkin literatür ve kanıta dayalı rehber önerileri hakkında bilgi sahibi olmaları önem arz etmektedir. Bu makalede, son güncellemeler ışığında cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarını önlemede cerrahi kesi örtülerinin etkinliği ile ilgili yapılmış çalışmalar ve klinik rehberlerde yer alan cerrahi kesi örtüleri ile ilgili önerilere yer verilmesi amaçlanmıştır. Sonuç olarak, cerrahi kesi örtülerin kullanımına yönelik literatür ve cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarını önlemek amacıyla yayınlanan uluslararası güncel rehberlerde; ameliyathanede cerrahi kesi örtülerin kullanımına yönelik tek bir fikir birliğinin olmadığı, ancak cerrahi kesi örtülerinin kullanımı durumunda ise özellikle iyot emdirilmiş cerrahi kesi örtülerin kullanılmasının önerildiği görülmüştür. Cerrahi kesi örtüsü kullanımının cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarını önleme girişimlerine katkı sağlaması ve literatüre kazandırılması için bu konuda daha fazla çalışma yapılması önerilmektedir. Ayrıca ameliyathane hemşirelerinin cerrahi kesi örtülerin kullanımına yönelik güncel bilgileri takip ederek cerrahi alan enfeksiyonlarını önleme girişimlerinde bulunmaları önerilmektedir.
