JİNEKOLOJİ VE OBSTETRİDE HASTALARIN HEKİM CİNSİYETİ TERCİHLERİ VE ETKİLEYEN FAKTÖRLER

Year 2022, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 12 - 22, 01.01.2022

Abstract

Year 2022, Volume: 4 Issue: 1, 12 - 22, 01.01.2022

Abstract

This study was carried out to determine patients’ preferences of physician gender and affecting factors in gynecology and obstetrics. This study was conducted between 01-30 June 2020. The study is cross sectional type. Patients who applied to the obstetrics and gynecology outpatient clinics of a university hospital were included in the study. Minimum sample size was calculated as 656 patients with sampling method known the universe. Total 565 voluntary women who accepted in this study were included. In this study, questionnaire method was used as data collection tool in the study. Data were presented as mean, standard deviation, frequency and number and comparison Chi square test. The women who included in this study of mean age was 30.1±12.1 years. In this study, 79.8% of women were married, almost half of them have high school or higher education status and low income. 46.7% of women stated that they applied to the clinic due to pregnancy follow-up. It was reported that 56.5% of women preferred female physician gender in gynecological examination, %3.7 preferred male gender in pregnancy follow-up and more than half of them did not notice physician gender. It was determined that women participating in this study preferred more female doctors because of embarrassment and discomfort and with those graduated from primary education. Health workforce planning in the female gender of obstetricians in Turkey, patient preferences should be considered and patients benefits from the status of women’s health services should be increased. The gender of obstetricians who are employed in regions where the education level is low in rural areas and where cultural norms are more adhered to should be taken into account in health planning.
