Year 2021, Volume: 15 Issue: 1, 42 - 48, 09.03.2021

Abstract

Year 2021, Volume: 15 Issue: 1, 42 - 48, 09.03.2021

Abstract

Introduction: To determine perceived psychological maltreatment levels on pregnant women. Method: The study was carried out in three major counties of Konya. Three family health centers (FHC) were randomly determined through the draw-in method within these countries. The participants consisted of all pregnant women admitted to these FHCs between 01 January and 30 May 2020. The data were collected by the researchers using the Personal Information Form and the Turkish version of Psychological Treatment of Women Inventory Short Form. To perform the study, the approvals from the ethical committee and institution and verbal consent from participants were obtained. Results: A total of 300 pregnant women meeting the criteria were included into the study. The average age of participants is 26.55±4.42 and 35.3% of participants were university graduates, while 75.3% were housewives. The mean score of the perceived psychological maltreatment level scale was 32.01±19.20. It is concluded that pregnant women between the ages of 30-34 and whose spouse are not working are more exposed to psychological maltreatment. Conclusion: Based on data obtained via the study, it was determined that pregnant women between the ages of 30-34 and whose spouse are not working are in the risk group to psychological maltreatment. During the antenatal care given in Family Health Center, pregnant women should be evaluated in terms of their exposure domestic violence and women in the risk group should be given priority. Also, it is recommended that further studies should be performed in other regions of Turkey.
