An Unexpected Cause of Low Back Pain: Osteitis Condensans Ilii: Case Report

Year 2008, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 405 - 409, 20.11.2008

Abstract

Low back pain js a common symptom, in woman in pregancy and during the postpar turn period. Ligamentous laxity and extra mechanical stress have been attributed as the main cause for low back pain during pregnancy. Osteitis condensans ilii is characterized by recurrent attacks of chronic low back pain localized to one or both of the sacroiliac joints. The radiological appearance in osteitis condensans ilii is characteristic with well defined triangular sclerosis on the iliac aspect of the sacroiliac joint. A case of a 26 year old woman with low back pain secondary to an uncommon benign condition called osteitis condensans ilii is presented here. Her pregnancy had been complicated by low back pain. Physical examination was unremarkable. This case report emphasizes the important features and differential diagnosis of osteitis condensans ilii and managing this rare condition.

Bel Ağrısının Beklenmedik Nedeni: Osteitis Kondensans İlii

Year 2008, Volume: 2 Issue: 3, 405 - 409, 20.11.2008
