MANİSA’DA TOPLUMUN SOSYAL HİZMET MESLEĞİNE İLİŞKİN FARKINDALIĞI VE TUTUMU: KARŞILAŞTIRMALI BİR ARAŞTIRMA

Abstract

Bu çalışmada toplumun üyelerinin sosyal hizmet meslek ve disiplini konusundaki farkındalığının ölçülmesi, toplumun farklı kesimlerinin mesleğe ilişkin bilgi düzeylerine ve tutumlarına ilişkin bir çerçeve çizilebilmesi amaçlanmaktadır. Araştırma Manisa kent merkezinde küme örnekleme yöntemi ile seçilen 18 yaş üzeri 500 kişi üzerinde ilişkisel tarama tasarımında kesitsel olarak yürütülmüş bir çalışmadır. Araştırmada katılımcılardan öz bildirime dayalı, yapılandırılmış bir anket formu aracılığıyla veriler toplanmıştır. Bu kapsamda katılımcıların temel sosyo-demografik bilgilerinin elde edilmesinin yanı sıra, katılımcıların sosyal hizmete ilişkin bilgilerini ve tutumlarını ölçmeye yönelik sorular sorulmuştur. Araştırmanın verileri 2015 yılının Aralık ayında yüz yüze görüşme yöntemi ile elde edilmiştir. Araştırmanın veri işleme ve çözümleme aşaması SPSS 15.0 aracığıyla yapılmıştır. Karşılaştırmalı bulguların analizinde Mann-Whitney U, Kruskal-Wallis H testlerinden yararlanılmıştır.Araştırma sonucunda, katılımcıların %53’ünün daha önce sosyal hizmet mesleğini duymamış olduğu görülmektedir. Bununla birlikte sosyo-ekonomik durumu daha iyi olan bireylerin bilme ve tutum puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu; sosyal hizmet mesleğini daha önce duymuş ve sosyal hizmet uzmanı ile karşılaşmış olanların da bilme ve tutum puanlarının daha yüksek olduğu tespit edilmiştir. Sosyal hizmet mesleği toplumla çalışan, toplumla ilgili bir meslektir. Bu yüzden, toplumun sosyal hizmeti ve sosyal hizmet uzmanını tanıması, çalışma alanlarını, çalışma gruplarını, rol ve görevlerini bilmesi, mesleğe ve meslek elemanına karşı olumlu tutum geliştirmesi oldukça önemlidir.

Public Awareness and Attitude toward Social Work in Manisa: A Comparative Research

Abstract

This study aims to measure the level of public awareness toward social work profession and discipline as well as to create a frame about the knowledge and attitudes of different segments of the society. The research is a cross-sectional study that has been conducted in the city centre of Manisa , by cluster sampling method. It was carried out with 500 individuals over 18. Data was collected through a structured questionnaire based on self-reports of participants. In this context, basic socio-demographic information of the participants was obtained. In addition to that, some questions were asked in order to evaluate the knowledge and attitudes of the participants toward social work. Research data was obtained through face to face interviews in December 2015. The data processing and analysis stage of the study was conducted with SPSS 15.0. In analysing the comparative findings; Mann-Whitney U and Kruskal-Wallis H tests were used. The data obtained in this study shows that %53 of respondents hadn‟t heard of social work profession before. It is determined that the knowledge and attitude of those who have a better socio-economic situation, and those who heard about social work profession and met with a social worker are higher. Social work is a profession related to public and works with each member of society. For this reason, it is crucial that public know about social work, social workers and their work areas, working groups, roles and tasks as well to develop positive attitude toward social work and social workers.
