Abstract
Social work undergraduate students participated this research,
which was carried out to determine social work students’ beliefs towards mental
illness. As data collection tool Beliefs Toward Mental Illness Scale and a
questionnaire which was developed by researchers were used. The results of the
data analysis show that age, family income, students’ class, whether the
students have taken the course of Medical and Psychiatric Social Work,
participating in scientific events related to mental health, willing to work in
the mental health field, the presence of mental illness and treatment history
in friends, relatives and/or in the students’ themselves have impact on social work
students’ beliefs toward mental illness.

Abstract
Sosyal hizmet
öğrencilerinin ruhsal hastalıklara yönelik inançlarını belirlemek amacıyla
yapılan bu araştırmaya 279 sosyal hizmet lisans öğrencisi katılmıştır. Veri
toplama aracı olarak araştırmacılar tarafından oluşturulan soru kağıdı ve
Ruhsal Hastalıklara Yönelik İnançlar Ölçeği (RHYİÖ) kullanılmıştır. Verilerin analizi sonucunda yaş, ailenin
geliri, öğrencinin bulunduğu sınıf, Tıbbi ve Psikiyatrik Sosyal Hizmet dersini
alma durumu, ruh sağlığı ile ilgili bilimsel etkinliklere katılma durumu, ruh
sağlığı alanında çalışmak isteme durumu, arkadaş ve yakın çevrede ruhsal
hastalık ve tedavi öyküsünün varlığı ile öğrencilerin kendisinde ruhsal hastalık
ve tedavi öyküsü bulunma durumu değişkenlerinin öğrencilerin ruhsal
hastalıklara yönelik inançları üzerinde etkileri olduğu sonucuna ulaşılmıştır.
