Management of Patients with Corrosive Substance Ingestion in the Emergency Medicine

Öz

Corrosive substance ingestion is a worldwide medical problem which leads to admission of pediatric and adult patients to the emergency services. The medical managements of these patient have been described according to both patient and substance characteristics. However; it may not be possible to know the ingredient of the substances in all of the cases. In this review the general approach to and the management of these patients have been summarized. When we consider all of the different expert opinions, endoscopic treatment of these patients are observed to be not only useful and efficient but also cost- effective.

Öz

Korozif madde alınması nedeniyle acil servise çocuk ve yetişkin hasta girişi tüm dünyada yaygın bir tıbbi sorundur. Bu hasta grupları için hem hastanın kendine hem de alınan maddeye göre değişen tıbbi yaklaşımlar tanımlanmıştır. Ancak her zaman maruz kalınan maddenin içeriğini bilmek mümkün değildir. Bu derlemede genel yaklaşımlar ve tedavi ilkeleri özetlenmiştir. Tüm farklı önerilere bakıldığında karşıt fikirler olmasına rağmen endoskopik yaklaşımlar faydalı ve etkin olması yanında kost- efektif olarak da görülmektedir.
