Polikistik Over Sendromuyla Baş Etme Yolları: Hayıt Otu Tedavisi Üzerine Bir Derleme

Ways to Cope with Polycystic Ovary Syndrome: A Review on Vitex Agnus Castus L. Treatment

Yıl 2024, Cilt: 3 Sayı: 1, 36 - 58, 30.04.2024

Öz

Polycystic ovary syndrome is currently treated with a wide range of natural or complementary medicines. Medical organizations need complete and appropriate details to help women and make the right decision about alternative treatment based on evidence. The aim of this study is to introduce treatments for polycystic ovary syndrome with the Vitex Agnus Castus L. herb and to summarize the clinical research on this condition. Studies of the beneficial effects of Vitex Agnus Castus L. in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome have shown results such as improvement in menstrual cycles, reduction in hirsutism and acne symptoms, and improvement in mental health. As a phytoestrogenic plant, it can increase estrogen secretion. In addition, Vitex Agnus Castus L. has been found to increase the size and number of follicles, reduce testosterone levels and be an alternative to oral contraceptives. These findings help us to understand the potential effects of Vitex Agnus Castus L. in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome. Therefore, Vitex Agnus Castus L. herb can be considered in the treatment of polycystic ovary syndrome; however, more research is needed to obtain more details about possible side effects.
