Introduction: The study was planned descriptively to determine the relationship between self-efficacy perception and sleep quality in primipara pregnant women.
Method: The study was carried out with 181 primiparous pregnant women at 28-32 weeks of gestation. Research data were collected using a personal information form, the General Self-Efficacy (GSE) Scale and the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index (PSQI). Number-percentage distributions, Mann-Whitney U test, Kruskal-Wallis and correlation test were used to evaluate the data.
Results: It was determined that the total score average of the General Self-Efficacy Scale of the pregnant women was 30.50 ± 4.16, and the average score for the total Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index was 7.59 ± 2.79. It was determined that 86.7% of the pregnant women had poor sleep quality. There is no significant relationship between general self-efficacy and Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index total score. However, a significant relationship was found between daytime dysfunction, a sub-dimension of the Pittsburgh Sleep Quality Index, and general self-efficacy total score and ability and confidence from its sub-dimension.
Conclusion: The results obtained from the study show that daytime dysfunction, which develops due to the decrease in sleep quality in pregnant women, negatively affects the self-efficacy of pregnant women. It is thought that interventions to increase the sleep quality of pregnant women will positively affect the health of the mother and child.
