The Effect of Psychodrama on University Students' Self-Esteem and Self-Sabotage Levels

Abstract

Purpose: The aim of this study is to examine the effect of psychodrama group interventions on university students’ self-esteem and self-sabotage levels. Methods: The study was conducted using a pretest-posttest control group experimental design. The sample consisted of a total of 40 university students, 20 in the intervention group and 20 in the control group. The intervention group participated in 12 psychodrama group sessions, while no intervention was applied to the control group. Data were collected using the Personal Information Form, Rosenberg Self-Esteem Scale, and Self-Handicapping Scale. Results: In the intervention group, the self-esteem score increased from 15.05±2.76 to 23.20±4.35, while the self-sabotage score increased from 55.45±10.20 to 81.45±11.23 (p<0.001). Conclusion: An increase in self-esteem scores was observed among participants after the psychodrama group sessions. In addition, psychodrama sessions raise awareness of self-sabotaging behaviours.
