Effect of the 21st Century Skills Course on 21st Century and Groupwork Skills in Senior Nursing Students: A Quasi-Experimental Study

Abstract

Purpose: This study examined the effect of the 21st Century Skills Course on nursing students’ 21st century and groupwork skills. Methods: The study quasi-experimental study was conducted with senior nursing students between October 2023 and December 2023. The intervention group consisted of 53 students, and the control group comprised 47 students. Data were collected using three tools: descriptive information form, the Multidimensional 21st Century Skills Scale, and the Groupwork Skills Scale. Results: Statistically significant differences were observed in the pre-test scores of the intervention and control groups on the overall Multidimensional 21st Century Skills Scale, as well as on the entrepreneurship, innovation skills, and career consciousness subscales (p<0.05). Additionally, a statistically significant difference was found in the pre-test and post-test scores of the intervention group on the total scale and task and interpersonal skills subscales of the Groupwork Skills Scale (p<0.05). Conclusion: The 21st century skills course was effective in improving both 21st century and groupwork skills among senior nursing students.
