Evaluating Nursing Students’ Attitudes Toward Nurses During Their Clinical Practice

Abstract

Purpose: This study aimed to assess nursing students’ attitudes toward nurses during their clinical practice. Methods: This descriptive, cross-sectional study involved 197 students from a private university’s nursing program. Data were collected using a “Socio-Demographic Information Form” and “an Attitude Scale Toward Nurses During Clinical Practice”. The data were analyzed with IBM SPSS 27.0. A p-value less than 0.05 was considered statistically significant. Results: Students showed a moderate level of positive attitudes toward nurses during clinical practice (Mean = 93.64; SD = 26.06). As students advanced in their year of study, their overall attitude scores and scores in the “collaboration and understanding” category increased significantly. Male students scored significantly higher than females across all attitude subcategories. Students who worked an additional job had significantly lower scores in the “professional development” category compared to those who didn’t work extra. Fourth-year intern students who received one-on-one mentoring had significantly higher overall attitude scores than those who did not receive such support. Conclusion: One-on-one mentoring helps improve the professional relationship between students and nurses and boosts satisfaction with clinical practice.
