The Impact of Cyberbullying Awareness Training on Nursing Students’ Awareness and Sensitivity

Abstract

Purpose: This study was conducted to examine the effect of cyberbullying awareness training applied to nursing students on their levels of cyberbullying awareness and sensitivity. Methods: The study was carried out using a single-group pretest–posttest quasi-experimental design. The sample consisted of 80 nursing students studying at a state university. Data were collected using a descriptive information form, the Cyberbullying Awareness Scale, and the Cyberbullying Sensitivity Scale. Pretest and posttest scores were compared following the educational intervention. Data were analyzed using paired samples t-test, independent samples t-test, and one-way analysis of variance. Results: The findings indicated that students’ cyberbullying awareness and sensitivity scores increased significantly after the training (p < 0.05). In addition, the educational intervention had a moderate to high effect on awareness levels. Gender-based analyses revealed that female students had higher posttest scores, while significant differences were also found according to internet usage duration. Conclusion: Cyberbullying awareness training was found to be effective in increasing nursing students’ levels of cyberbullying awareness and sensitivity. Accordingly, it is recommended that training on cyberbullying and safe internet use be included in nursing education programs.
