Determination of Death Anxiety in Patients Undergoing Laparoscopic Cholestectomy

Purpose:In this study, it was aimed to determination of death anxiety in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholestectomy. Patients and Methods:This descriptive and cross-sectional study was conducted between August 2019 and January 2020 in the general surgery service of a private hospital with 114 patients. Descriptive characteristics form and Thorson-Powell Death Anxiety Scale were used to collect data. Statistical evaluation of the data was performed using the IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 24 program. The results were interpreted at a significance level of p <0.05. Results:Death anxiety scale total score and subscale mean scores were high in married and working patients and the difference between them was statistically significant (p <0.05). However, the average score of those who define death as fate, death; It was found to be higher than those who described it as fearful, uncertainty, end and salvation. Conclusion:It was found that the level of death anxiety was high in patients undergoing laparoscopic cholecystectomy. The death anxiety level of the patients; It was determined that it was affected by age, marital status and employment status.

Amaç:Bu çalışmada laparoskopik kolesistektomi ameliyatı olacak hastalarda ölüm kaygısının belirlenmesi amaçlandı. Hastalar ve Yöntem:Tanımlayıcı ve kesitsel tipte olan çalışma, Ağustos 2019- Ocak 2020 tarihleri arasında özel bir hastanesinin genel cerrahi servisinde, 114 hasta ile yürütüldü. Veriler toplanırken, hastalara tanıtıcı özellikleri belirleme formu ve Thorson-Powell Ölüm Kaygısı Ölçeği uygulandı. Toplanan verilerin istatistiksel değerlendirilmesi IBM Statistical Package for Social Sciences (SPSS) 24 programı ile yapıldı. Sonuçlar p<0.05 anlamlılık düzeyi baz alınarak yorumlandı. Bulgular:Ölüm kaygısı ölçeği toplam puan ve alt boyut puan ortalamalarının evli ve çalışan hastalarda yüksek olduğu ve aralarında bulunan farkın istatistiksel açıdan anlamlı olduğu bulundu (p<0.05). Bununla birlikte ölümü kader olarak tanımlayanların puan ortalamalarının, ölümü; korku verici, belirsizlik, son ve kurtuluş olarak tanımlayanlardan yüksek olduğu tespit edildi. Sonuç:Laparoskopik kolesistektomi ameliyatı olacak hastalarda ölüm kaygısı düzeyinin yüksek olduğu saptandı. Hastalarının ölüm kaygısı düzeyinin; yaş, medeni durum ve çalışma durumudan etkilendiği tespit edildi.
