Models of Nursing: Roy Adaptation Model
Abstract
Nursing is a health discipline which is built on philosophy, theory, application and research. The basic purpose of a professional discipline is to reveal the scientific knowledge content that could be used with the applications of the profession. This basic knowledge is expressed with concepts and theories specific to the profession. If the nurses use the concepts and theories consciously, the possibility to analyse the results rises and it helps the constitution of a database for the nurses. Today, nursing models are commonly used in nursing practice. One of the most commonly used models in these applications is the Roy Adaptation Model. According to Roy, nursing is an open for improvement knowledge system which affects individuals’ health state positively. The nurses uses this knowledge to affect the individual’s health states positively. The interventions implemented by the nurse eases the individual’s adaptation. The aim of the model is to provide the individual’s adaptation through four adaptive styles in health and disease states
