Abstract
Objectives: This study aimed to determine depressive condition and psychiological endurance of war veterans and martyr’s relatives. Materıals and Methods: 75 voluntary participants, who reside in the city center and have been members of Veterans and Martyr’s Society, Cankiri, between 01.05.2011 and 30.05.2011 constituted the sampling of this study. “Personal information form”, “Beck Depression Scale BDS ” and “Psychiological Endurance Scale for Adults” have been utilized for data collection. Findings: According to depression scale cut-off values, we determined that 9.1% of war veterans and 32.8% of martyr’s relatives had depression. Educational level and depression points seemed to have negative correlation for martyr’s relatives r =.273; p =0.020 . As for veterans, more children in the family correlated with higher depression points r =.705; p =0.023 . There was no significant difference between the total mean points of pyschiological endurance of martyr’s relatives 99.1 ± 8.2 and war veterans 99.0± 9.7 and their endurance level found to be moderate. Family orientation point, which is a sub-dimension sub-group . of psychiological endurance scale found to be higher in martyr’s relatives Z=2.182; p=0.029 . We found no significant difference p>0.05 between martyr’s relatives and war veterans regarding mean points for other scale sub-dimensions ‘Self perception 18±3’, ‘Future perception 12±2.7’, ‘Formal syle12±3.3’ Structural style12±3.3’, ‘Social competence 18±3.5’ ve ‘Social sources 19±3.5’ and their endurance determined as moderate. Results: Depression scale found to be higher in martyr’s relatives. There was no significant difference between the total mean points of pyschiological endurance of martyr’s relatives 99.1 ± 8.2 and war veterans 99.0± 9.7 and their endurance level found to be moderate.
