Evaluating the Impact of Dienogest on Quality of Life in Turkish Patients with Endometriosis: A Clinical Study

Abstract

Purpose
This study aimed to evaluate the effectiveness of dienogest in alleviating the negative effects associated with endometriosis in Turkish patients. The impact of the treatment on health-related quality of life (HRQoL) was assessed using the validated Turkish version of the Endometriosis Health Profile-30 (EHP-30) questionnaire.
Methods
A total of 119 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of endometrioma characterized by a unilocular cyst with homogeneous ground-glass echogenicity were included in this study, conducted at a tertiary care center. All participants were prescribed or already have been prescribed a continuous regimen of 2 mg/day dienogest for symptom control. Each patient completed the core section of the EHP-30 questionnaire twice: before treatment initiation and after a defined treatment period.
Results
A significant improvement was observed in total EHP-30 scores (from 96.92 to 52.03, p < .001). Notable improvements were also found in the pain (p < .001), self-image (p < .001), and emotional well-being (p < .001) subdomains. Changes in EHP-30 scores were not found to be significantly correlated with treatment duration, reduction in endometrioma size, or changes in CA125 levels.
Conclusion
Dienogest significantly improves quality of life even with short-term use and stands out as an effective treatment option for endometriosis.
