Retrograd Airflow To Nasolacrimal Ductus Mimicking Preseptal Cellulitis In a Child With Sinusitis

Abstract

Sinusitis is an important community health problem for its increasing prevelance and incidence. The exact incidence of the complications of the disease is not known because sinusitis is generally treated by pediatricians and general practitioners, whereas complications are mostly treated by otorhinolaryngologists 1 . In this study we present a case hospitalised for sinusitis who had no complaints and no examination findings on the 3 rd day of medical treatment, but experienced a sudden right orbital pain with slight hypotropia of the right eye and painful eye movements. The computerized tomography obtained to exclude intracranial complications, revealed the retrograde airflow to orbita through lacrimal canal without presence of a bone defect. Aim of this study is to remind retrograde airflow to lacrimal canal in a patient with sinusitis, with acute severe headache, hypotropia, and pitosis, mimicking preseptal cellulitis
