The Effect of Postpartum Breastfeeding Counselling Supported With Short Message Services and Telephone Calling On Breastfeeding Practices Over Six Months

Abstract

Objective: This study was conducted to determine the effect of postpartum breastfeeding counselling supported with short message services and telephone calling on breastfeeding practices over six months. Method: Study sample consisted of 388 women who gave birth at a university hospital 194 experimental group, 194 control group . Data was collected with Personal Characteristics Form, Breastfeeding Self-Efficacy Short Form Scale and Postpartum Breastfeeding Behaviour Form. Women in both groups were given breastfeeding counselling in the hospital after data form administration. Women in the experimental group were given breastfeeding counselling via short message services and telephone calls two months postpartum. Breastfeeding self-efficacy and breastfeeding behaviour of women in both groups were evaluated by calling again at four months and six months postpartum. Data were analysed using SPSS 14.0 software on the computer.
